Halifax natal day 2021 –

 

Natal Day, which falls on the first Monday of August, is a popular civic holiday in the Halifax-Dartmouth area; marked over the years by events such as fireworks, parades, paddling regattas, cake-cutting, road running races, concerts and fairs.

John P. Dartmouth had for many years been accustomed to observe the Natal Day of Halifax on June 21st , when schools were closed all day, and most shops shut up at noon. By June it was quite evident that the branch would not get finished that year. The Dartmouth Committee, however, went right ahead with their plans for an August regatta and fireworks display at First Lake.

Downtown stores and streets were gaily decorated, as were many private residences all over Dartmouth. On Steamboat Hill, voluminous folds of colored bunting billowed in the light summer breeze. In , the Dartmouth Natal Day parade first featured floats.

This holiday was started in as a way to celebrate the history of Nova Scotia. Why is it called Natal Day? A celebration on which people can take a three-day weekend, enjoy some of the local festivities and just have a good time. When this holiday was first conceived in , it was designed to celebrate the birthday of Nova Scotia.

Nova Scotia was organized on July 1, So why is this holiday celebrated on the first Monday in August instead of in July? Unfortunately, the railway line was held up, so the day was repurposed to celebrate the history of Halifax and Nova Scotia.

Over the course of our research, we came across a ton of interesting facts about Halifax and Nova Scotia in general. Facts that we think anyone reading about Natal Day is going to want to learn about. There are six universities in Halifax.
