Zinwave Ltd. Supporting Corporate Moves The Dallas Regional Chamber, or DRC, works closely with many companies that decide to locate major corporate facilities here, particularly headquarters. Our team knows how important these decisions are for both companies and their employees.
We help companies understand this region fully—from our demographics, labor costs, transportation assets, real estate options, or taxes and incentives that might apply to a project. Often we do it face to face. We visit companies and host executives here, including multiday visits during which we often engage Dallas-Fort Worth area business and civic leaders or subject-matter experts with the candidate company team to achieve the peer-to-peer conversations that are so meaningful in selling DFW.
We continue to work with companies—and particularly employees—that decide to move here. Corporate moves often impact hundreds, even thousands, of employees and families. Those employees have lots of questions, and each family situation is different. For all major corporate relocations, the DRC offers to meet with employees and families that suddenly have the opportunity to become new Texans. Our goal is to help the employees understand why our region is a great place to live, raise a family, and prosper.
Eyes light up when we show pictures of homes with affordable prices, the arts and cultural amenities, our parks and trees and lakes, our foodie places, our outstanding medical care, dog parks, light rail, and bike trails—as well as the many facts and anecdotes that help them realize that DFW is a more robust, culturally, and socially diverse place than they might have thought.
And those who already know the area well, or might be from here, just get more excited about the move. Helping employees after a move is announced is a benefit to the company and its employees.
Jason Fung: Exatamente. Rodrigo Polesso: Sim, sem querer fazer trocadilhos. Perder massa muscular enquanto se faz jejum. Ron Rosedale falou sobre isso no Low Carb Vail. E o jejum faz a mesma coisa.
Me diverti bastante. Espero que nos falemos no futuro. Rodrigo Polesso: Fantastic.
This is a great moment for Brazilian health. So, to hit the ground running, I would like to address the basics of intermittent fasting and then we are gonna move into more advanced topics as we go along. We know that intermittent fasting is a very old practice.
Even today is something that billions of people all over the world do every year mainly for religious porpoise. If you are listening to this and never hear of intermittent fasting before, this practice basically consists in not eating for a limited amount of time — 12 hours, 16 hours, 18 hours, 24 hours, 36 hours or even more.
People today are very skeptic about not eating for a while. They are afraid of not getting food every couple of hours because of all of this constant eating craze created by the modern world and wrong advice that they are getting. Fung is intermittent fasting a healthy practice? Jason Fung: Absolutely. If you think about it, you have to have a balance. Like everything in life, you have to balance eating and fasting. Sometimes you should be eating but sometimes you should be fasting.
What we got wrong in the modern world is that we think we should be eating at the minute we get up in the morning until the moment that you to bed. If you eat constantly throughout the day, instead of breakfast, lunch and dinner… If look at the United States — because data is easily available there — in had average meals per day as 3 breakfast, lunch, dinner.
We all lived like that. Now, if you go to , the average number of meals a day is actually 6 in the United States. Eating more frequently is gonna make you lose weight? You eat from 10 to 12 hours of the day and you fast from 12 to 14 hours of the day. Everything is balanced and people do very well. Well, your body is just burning off some of the stored food energy sugar and fat. But this is the way we are designed. And your body lived off your stored food.
Why would your body burn fat? Your body is smart. But you always have something in your mouth, from the minute you get up to the minute you go to bed. Should you eat wheat, bread, carbs, fat? We talk about that all the time. And for the most part, there are a few differences.
We agree that sugar is not very good for you, white bread is not very good for you. Most people agree that a lot of these fats are not that bad for you… there is some debate about saturated fats, but avocado, olive oil, nuts, everybody kind of agrees on that. But nobody talks about this whole question of when to eat. Think about that word. It implies two things. You have to fast every day. You do not have to eat as soon as you get up.
You can break your fast at noon. You can break your fast at dinner. Your blood sugar is completely normal. In fact, what happens just before you wake up is that your body produces these counter regulatory hormones.
These are hormones like cortisol, epinephrine and growth hormone. And they actually pump out a little of glucose into our system. We need all the tools is our tool belt to fight this problem of obesity. Because it is really hard. Obesity and type-2 diabetes are very hard. We need all the tools. Some of these modern things that have lead to obesity epidemic are not based on any kind of evidence, historical reality. Some times once a day and sometimes 3 times a day. But not 6 times a day.
Rodrigo Polesso: It seems pretty obvious when we talk about it. Everyone has taught us to eat as soon as we roll out of bed and keep doing it the whole day. And now people are afraid of skipping one snack because they might feel tired or gonna be sick. So, this was a great introduction to the subject. Besides the weight loss benefits to intermittent fasting, I would like you to mention a few general health benefits of the practice itself.
The most obvious is weight loss. The other one is for type-2 diabetics. On top of that, there is actually a host of other benefits. What happens specially during the longer fast, is that you get a growth hormone increase. Most people, as they age, their growth hormone drops. If you have no growth hormone, and you replace it, you get better bone density, better muscle growth.
In fact, it may have anti-ageing properties. If you give just exogenous growth hormones you can have problems with cardiomyopathy. But if you naturally boost the growth hormones, specially as you get older, when your levels start to drop, you may be able to prevent some of these problems including osteoporosis and sarcopenia which is the loss of muscles of you get older.
There is also a process called autophagy which is stimulated by both protein restriction as well as fasting. Fasting reducing everything. Autophagy is very interesting. A lot of people are locking into this sort of process. It is a process of cleaning out this subcellular debris. These cellular parts that kind of old and broken down. Your body gets rid of them. You have to take out the old cabinets and build new ones.
That is exactly what fasting does. Autophagy is a process where you get rid of these old subcellular parts and then the growth hormone helps you lay down new parts. In essence, you are trying to renew yourself.
So what you are doing is that you are telling you body to get rid of all this old junk. It cleans it out. The other thing is cancer. Cancer is a very big problem everywhere. One of the things contributes to it is probably elevated insulin levels. Insulin is a growth factor. But when you are older, anything that stimulates growth like insulin is not really all that good for you because the cells that typically grows faster are cancerous cells. By lowering insulin, you may help reduce that cancer.
Other thing people talk about is the so called Warburg effect. So what you do in essence is you starve these cancer cells of glucose and you chew them off before they before a problem. Some people recommend a week-long fast every year. That would be very interesting. That would kill all your cancer cells once a year. People used to call these cleanses, detoxes, purifications. Once a year you should give yourself a good cleaning out with 5 days, 7 days, a month.
Whatever it is. These ideas have been around for a long time. Which gives you a reassurance that if there were any problems, people would have figured out these problems a long time ago. This is the 21st century play.
People talk about the zika virus or whatever virus. All these big diseases you can prevent yourself from having by doing these simple things that people have always done. And by doing the opposite, by staying in that anabolic most of the time during the day, we prevent all these good things from happening.
We prevent the clean-up of our bodies, we prevent everything! We feed the cancer cells. We do the complete opposite of it by following this craze of constant eating.
Imagine that someone is overweight, maybe a type-2 diabetic. That person need to lose weight. So, the question is… To prevent people from starting doing the wrong things… who should fast and who should not fast?
And I think Dr. Souto has a more specific question about the same subject. Souto: Actually, I have a blog and people frequently ask if fasting is ok for women.
There are some bloggers in the paleo blogosphere that claim that fasting would be ok for men but would be problematic for women and bad for their thyroid function. What do you think based on your practice and or the literature… is it true that fasting may not be good for women? Since the time of Jesus Christ, years ago, men and women have fasted. Children, they have not been part of the fasting tradition.
Long fast, over 24 hours, definitely not. If a kid wants to skip breakfast, sure, go ahead. People who are underweight. Pregnancy, same thing. Fetal development is very critical. It could cause irreversible damage. Breastfeeding sustained. You can fast, but you need to get medical supervision. Those are the times you really should not fast.
Now, getting to the specific point of women, the reason that some people get concerned is that if your body fat falls too low, you can lose your menstrual cycle. You can go amenorrheac which means that you lose your period.
Excuse me. You can absolutely fast. There is no problem. The same goes with the thyroid. But it really has nothing to do with the thyroid. When you fast, your body burns glucose and burns fat. It has nothing to do with iodine. It really has nothing to do with thyroid. If you think about women, they have never been exempted from fasting, except for those conditions: pregnancy and breastfeeding.
If you look at religious practices, and people used to and people who still do like buddhists and muslins — those religions that are still big on fasting — the woman are not exempted. There are literally millions of women throughout history who are fasting. So then you go back to studies that have looked at fasting and many of them, including men and women, and they do exactly the same. Well, men have a lot of problems too. So, yes, women have problems, men have problems, exactly the same problems.
When you actually get some experience, taking women and men, you see that they actually perform exactly the same. So there is no reason why women should not fast. You are just throwing out your most powerful tool. If you are a woman, so what? What does that have to do with anything? There is a recent post by this fellow Alan Aragon who also wrote something about intermittent fasting which is just laughable.
You have zero experience with actual people. I just wanted you to spell it out. Rodrigo Polesso: Now we have a double question about the same subject. When it comes to weight loss, inspired by your work, I usually tell people that there are at least 3 big causes of obesity: insulin, insulin resistance and cortisol.
The 3 big ones. What are the benefits of intermittent fasting, specifically in addressing these causes and resulting in weight loss? Souto also has an additional question about the same subject. Jason Fung: The real driver of weight gain in insulin. There is an overlap with calories, and the things that contain calories do raise insulin to some extent. There are food, for example, like white bread, where you can have only a certain number of calories, but your insulin will go way up.
So, what matters to the body is the insulin response. Insulin is what tells our body to gain weight. Insulin resistance is the same thing but on a longer-term process.
If you stimulate insulin all the time, you can eventually develop insulin resistance. But then when you ask what causes insulin resistance people have every answer in the book. These are just buzz words that really mean nothing. To me the answer is really found in the word itself. Insulin resistance is the body natural attempt to resist a high insulin. So the natural reaction is to turn up the music.
But if you turn up the music you get a little bit more deaf, so you turn it up again. It gets resistant to the insulin and produces more insulin. It goes around in a vicious cycle just like the headphones.
You wanna turn the sound off. What you wanna do is to drop your insulin levels very low. You see this in every case, in every biological system. The antibiotic resistance develops to resist the high levels of antibiotics.
So, giving more antibiotics is not gonna work. The answer is the opposite of what you think it is, which is to use very few antibiotics. This is the same here. You need to have that low insulin levels every so often to restore sensitivity. You lower your insulin levels for a good long period of time 10, 15, 20 hours. They develop over decades. This a vicious cycle that goes on and on.
If you remember earlier this week about The Biggest Loser. There is a big article about this Biggest Loser people. These people have been obese for a long time. They got a lot of insulin resistance. As soon as they stopped doing all the exercise and stuff, their weight just went back up.
Because their metabolism just went way down. This is not really new. The study just shows it very well. It can help you break that cycle of insulin resistance, lower the insulin levels — which are ultimately driving weight gain.
Rodrigo Polesso: Perfect. Souto, do you have an additional question about this subject? Rodrigo Polesso: Alright. Again, the court also noted that a provision in a contract of insurance is to be informed by its context and the nature or type of the insurance. The above decisions provide some clarity in regard to the operation of section 54 in a post Maxwell v Highway Hauliers Pty Ltd 3 landscape. Although, as demonstrated in Pantaenius, section 54 continues to be applied broadly by the courts, Inglis illustrates that it is not a panacea for all claims.
The cases also operate as a timely reminder that the court will determine the meaning of a policy provision, including an exclusion provision, by reference to the text, context and purpose of the provision and the policy as a whole.
Insurers, therefore, should approach the task of defining the limits of a policy with extreme care. The plaintiffs, the Quebec Government and a school board, were claiming from a series of defendants damages from a fire allegedly caused by welding operations on the roof of a school.
CII , was the contractor in charge of installing heating and ventilation components for the school. The court determined that, in the context of this hearing, the Insurer could provide the court with such external evidence to support its decision to refuse to defend CII.
Moreover, the court held that it should consider as true all the facts that flow from this external evidence. As a result, the court found that the Insurer had no duty to defend the claim made by plaintiffs against CII seeing as, at the stage of the proceedings, it had not been shown that the policy applied to the loss. The court reiterated that only a minimal amount of evidence should be heard at that stage, since the insured is not afforded the right to respond to the evidence put forward by the Insurer.
Certain employer-provided health benefit plans. The fifth circuit disagreed with Methodist. The Texas Supreme Court held that this provision of the TPPA applied to defence costs an insured incurred in defending a lawsuit and for which the insurer was later found to have wrongfully denied coverage. The legal problem behind the case can be found in the German law on legal services.
In Germany, only lawyers who are duly qualified and registered with the Bar association may render legal services. The reasoning behind that law is to protect the general public from unqualified legal advice and to ensure that only duly qualified lawyers with professional indemnity insurance in place are allowed to practice the law.
